The Governance Gauge: Data-Driven Policy Impact Evaluation
We hope you enjoy this Wednesday’s Governance Gauge: for more reading material, you can always visit our reading list for more on governance, special economic zones, best practices and studies!
“Data-Driven Policy Impact Evaluation” is a book of assorted works and papers edited by Nuno Crato and Portuguese Minister for Education and long-standing mathematical economics professor Nuno Crato and Paolo Paruolo of the European Joint Research Centre. The book examines various microdata examination and application techniques from their case studies in Germany and Hungary.
The book is split into 4 segments which examine (respectively) the definition of microdata and its use in policy, the use of such microdata in the previously mentioned case studies, accounting for the Bayesian effects of such data, and finally the implementation of final-product policy gained from this process.
Creators of zones and societies will find chapter 4 most relevant, as it focuses on the implementation of the insights gained through the previous chapter in an actionable and agile way, useful for small and non-established jurisdictions.
Policymakers and analysts can take a look at chapter 3 for excellent insights on the complexities that follow the measurement of microdata in governments and how to circumvent them.
Scholars and experts may use chapters 1 and 2 for reference on the nature of microdata and the various statistics regarding the implementation of such systems, from mostly proprietary sources.
The book can be found here.
